Back to basics, moving away from processed foods and back to the roots of real food.

Meet Lena, mum, Ultra Lite Practitioner, qualified naturopath, and owner of Wise Health and Wellness, Castle Hill.  We spoke to Lena to find out more about how processed foods and today’s eating culture motivated her to teach others to focus on getting back to the basics.

  1. When did you decide you wanted to work in the health industry?
    I had spent the early part of my career in Industry as a Chemical Engineer. However, I put this on hold while having a family. When it was time to go back to work it didn’t seem like the right path for me anymore. Having children changes your perspective on what is important. Maintaining good health through proper nutrition and lifestyle became a focus for myself and my family. Also, I wasn’t always convinced by what I saw in the health industry so I explored alternative approaches to health. This is when I decided to become a Naturopath.  Looking back on where I am now,  I am surprised that I didn’t do this earlier in life.

    Once I decided to change direction in life I undertook four years of training to become a qualified naturopath. I was keen to get started straight away,  so I opened my clinic in the Hills district in North West Sydney. My main interest was in treating digestive issues and chronic diseases.

    I believe food is at the centre of all health issues. When you see how far away we have moved from eating real food and general the consumption of highly processed food substitutes, it is no wonder we can see an explosion in weight-related health issues.

  1. What is one of your most memorable experiences working with the Ultra lite program?
    My very first Ultra Lite client came in after one week on the program and almost burst into tears. She saw how much weight she had lost and couldn’t believe it. She said she had been “slogging” it out at the gym four times a week for the last year and a half. But she had never been able to shift any kilos in all the time she’s been there.She also couldn’t believe she wasn’t hungry on Ultra Lite program. In the past, she felt continuously hungry and miserable.  Now she had heaps more energy.
  2. Why did you choose the Ultra Lite program for your business?
    Today, too many people are victims of highly processed, high sugar, high salt foods which are nutrient poor and bad for health. However, Ultra lite involves eating real food, which is important to me as a naturopath. I have looked at other programs over the years but the Ultra Lite program, as I see it, is sustainable and teaches you lifelong skills.

    I am also involved in charity work which aims to educate people on food choices to overcome mental and physical health issues with obesity. This is another reason why Ultra Lite was a good fit.

  1. If you could give one piece of advice to someone who is looking to change his or her health what would it be?
    Stop relying on processed food which is nutrient poor and detrimental to your health. Go back to the basics, learn to cook for yourself and eat real food. The Ultra Lite program is perfect for this whether you need to lose weight or not!
